Volunteer
Dear Volunteer Friend of
the Flyway Festival:
It's the time of year when our volunteer team is seriously in need of new recruits. No, you don't
have to load munitions, but we'd love for you to join us to volunteer for an hour or two over this weekend at the San Francisco Bay Flyway Festival. Three main locations include the:
Wildlife Expo Hall at Building 223,
500 Connolly St.
Mare Island Shoreline Heritage Preserve on the southern end of the island
New San Pablo Bay Walking Trail on the west side of the island
Check out the details below to volunteer at one of these three locations. Why not bring a friend along? Don't have any friends? You are guaranteed to make new ones during Flyway Festival weekend.
Thank you so very much for your contribution of your time. This is truly the greatest gift to the people of this regional community at our annual celebration of all things wild!
and, to offer you the opportunity to assist with the Festival by
volunteering.
Warmly,
Myrna Hayes

Volunteer at the San Pablo Bay Walking Trail
The trailhead is a short walk from the Wildlife Expo. Thursday and Friday your help setting up route signage to the trailhead from the Wildlife Expo headquarters would be greatly appreciated. Friday, Saturday and Sunday we would value your presence on the Trail as a volunteer docent, ambassador and birdwatching guide. Want to bring the trail history and natural and scenic features to life for people. Take up a station along it somewhere. Want to show someone how to use a scope, or digiscope using their camera attached to a scope? Go for it. This trail is yours to enjoy and to share with others. No need to check
in with us. Just go out and enjoy sharing what you love with Festival visitors.

Volunteer at the Mare Island Shoreline Heritage Preserve
southern end
of Mare Island
The Preserve will be open all three days during our regular hours this year and that means we really need your help to take a shift to have it open to our Flyway Festival visitors. Will you let me know what hour or two over than weekend, or even an entire morning or afternoon you will help out with?
Friday 9:30am-5:30pm
Take a shift of one or two hours to help open up, greet at the gate, host at the Visitors Center, or docent along the trail or at the cemetery.
Saturday and Sunday 8:30am-5:30pm
Take a shift of one or two hours to help open up, greet at the gate, host at the Visitors Center, or docent along the trail or at the cemetery.
A big thank you to all our volunteers who have already been at work.
If I forgot you, please know that we really appreciate your contribution and remind me. I
am pretty frazzled about now!
I want to thank all the volunteers who have already gone the extra mile for the Flyway Festival this year and I know I am missing some. Wally NeVille, Damon Hadley, Sallie Evans, Kathleen Fenton, Betsy Radtke and Abbie, Lily Ramos and Ayende and their friend Sam, Jim Porterfield, Celeste Langstaff, Marshall Lockwood, Richard and Val Evans, Pam and Ben Dewey, Brian Collett, Sue Wilson, Catherine Fasciato, Sylvia Handley, Max Hunter, Hunter Krebs-Dean and so many others who have passed the word along about the Festival to friends, family, co-workers and the press. It has really been exciting already and there is so much more rewarding times in the days ahead.
We don't want to forget that the 8th grade class of St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic School came over last Friday morning for a morning of community service at the Preserve. Thank them for clearing the road full of chips and weeding in the Rowser Garden. They are our Preserve angels as their classroom overlooks the Preserve from afar. Thanks kids!
15th Annual San Francisco Bay Flyway Festival February 11-13, 2011 headquartered again on Mare Island.
It's because of you that we can bring a weekend of wildlife education, live bird visits, art and gear and art to purchase, as well as dozens of guided hikes and tours at the San Francisco Bay Flyway Festival. During our 15th anniversary we celebrate the return of as many as a million shorebirds, more than a quarter million ducks and geese and thousands of raptors. Our focus has steadfastly been oriented to children, families, wildlife, birds, and exploring and experiencing the great outdoors, especially in our own backyard, Mare Island and the "north shore" of San Francisco Bay.
Your volunteer help for an hour or an afternoon and when you participate in the silent auction and raffle, purchase art and food and make a donation at the Festival or Donate at online, you keep the Festival free. See you there!
