Welcome to the home of the San Francisco Bay Flyway Festival
- A project of Arc Ecology...
You just missed the 2008 Flyway Festival, but we have exciting plans for more outings and programs than ever this year based at Mare Island and nearby “north shore” venues throughout the remainder of the year. See the schedule and descriptions below.
13th Annual San Francisco Bay Flyway Festival
Mark your calendar for February 6-8, 2009 and make plans now to attend.
Contact Us to let us know that you wish to receive occasional e-news about the next Flyway Festival and Mare Island and other “north shore” outings.
We offered up to 70 outings this past season with a great Wildlife Expo and Art Show and all FREE thanks to our generous Festival Host Weston Solutions and Festival Partner, Lennar Mare Island, and many other festival sponsors. Check back in the Fall for details on our upcoming Flyway Festival headquartered on the historic and scenic former Mare Island Naval Shipyard situated at the confluence of the Napa River and the Carquinez Strait as their waters flow into San Pablo Bay, the largest bay in the San Francisco Bay Estuary, in Vallejo, California.

Because of a great desire expressed by many folks to experience Mare Island in every season, we are looking forward to more outings, tours, programs and events on the Island. I can assure you that there is room for you on this very much alive, ever-changing and especially vibrant place called Mare Island! We invite you to return to Mare Island often throughout the upcoming months.

Mare Island
The San Francisco Bay Flyway Festival is based on the former Mare Island Naval Shipyard, the U.S. Navy's oldest installation in the Pacific and a National Historic Landmark, the highest ranking National Park Service gives an historic site in America. Mare Island is flanked by the Napa River or as it is also know, the Mare Island Strait, to the east and San Pablo Bay to the west. This setting in combination with its rich maritime and naval history makes it an irresistible attraction for those intrigued with military history and eager to discover natural places.

San Pablo bay.
Annual Daffodil Tea
The month of March on Mare Island brings the Annual Daffodil Tea and accompanying program of music and history at St. Peter's Chapel. Plan now to attend our 8th Annual
Daffodil Tea on March 30, 2008. Tea is served in an historic "Captain's Row" turn-of-the-century mansion and benefits the collection of Tiffany stained-glass windows and restoration of St. Peter's Chapel, now the Navy's oldest Chapel.

Customized Tea For Your Group In Mare Island’s Parks
We welcome you to join us for tea in a special setting in one of Mare Island’s many parks and other unique spots. Call 707-649-9464 or Contact Us to make arrangements to take tea during the Spring, Summer or Fall in an outdoor setting on Mare Island. Our volunteers will happily serve tea to any number from 4 to 400! Proceeds of our outing will help build the St. Peter’s Chapel restoration funds, too.
Hikes to the Historic and Natural South Shore
For outdoor enthusiasts and history buffs, the southern "original" hill and shoreline of Mare Island are an unique attraction. Plan to hike the south shore of Mare Island, the former Naval Ammunition Depot and participate in other tours, outings and events throughout the coming months hosted by the Sierra Club-Solano Group and Arc Ecology through their arrangements for guided access to the site with the U.S. Navy and the City of Vallejo. Visit the
